Re: [Simply Computers] Memory Questions

Well i am afraid i have mislead everyone. The computer runs great except for loading facebook games. I have been playing these games for about six months and had no problem until about a month ago. They got to where it would take 10 then 15 then 20 minutes to load. Now they want load at all. I did everything they suggested and nothing helped. Thats why i decided to do the recovery. But that didn't help either. Thats why I ASSUMED it was a memory problem. Thanks

Hello,

I see a number of our members have tried to help with this problem, but I suspect we are not understanding it correctly.

If you don't mind, would you clarify what you mean by "My computer is running at a snails pace " ?

I assume it did not always seem to be running slowly (even with only 1 GB of memory), but when did it start?

Was it running slowly before, and then you ran the recovery ?

After the recovery, is it still running slow?

If the computer is slow, and one suspect's that it is caused by a software problem, one might run the recovery program to try to cure it.

If, after running the recovery, the computer still is slow, that would tend to prove that software is not the issue.

Also, if it ran (comparitively) fine at one point, with only 1 GB, and now it runs slow, it again points to a hardware problem.

Hardware could be anything: memory, hard drive, power supply, cpu fan, etc. etc.

ADDING memory to a computer that has a bad memory module will not cure it.

REPLACING a bad memory module with a good one will cure it, but how do you know if the original memory is bad?

Although we all are trying to help you, it's my guess that you have a hardware problem (which may be as simple as a clogged cpu heatsink), and that, unfortunately, you may need to have a computer repair shop take a look at it.

I pray you can find a reputable one in your area.

ps. if you're in the So. Calif. area, let me know ...

pps.. if you're up to a challenge, you can prove software vs. hardware problems by running a Linux Live Cd. let us know if you want to try this.

I also don't understand the CPU usage. What does that have to do with anything? I used the partition master and incressed the size of my C drive but that didn' help physical memory. I have empowering technology on Vista and it says i have about 200MB of physical Memory. Is that good or bad? If bad, how do i get more? My C drive properties said i had 43.8 of 69. something free,so i thought that was good. I have a little CPU/ Ram meter on the desktop a nd the RAM meter is on 68%, is that good or bad? The CPU meter goes from 10 to 100% depending on what i am doing, again, good or bad?
