There seems to be an answer on this thread. I know I would take it out and put it in the appropriate external box if it was out of warranty. I would also try with a Puppy Linux Live CD that might put less strain on it.

My Maxtor 3200 will not respond when I try to open it.
The device manager shows a yellow icon at its location. I've used the Add Hardware Wizard. The Wizard told me:"This Device cannot start. (Code 10)." Is this the cause?
The Update Wizard tells me that my current software is the best available. Maxtor(Seagate) is no help.
I've tried unplugging and plugging the power and USB cables, but that doesn't work.
I have WinXP Home,SP3.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Bob
