Is the light on the front of the unit on?....can you feel a slight vibration when you put your hand over the unit as to pick it up?

My Maxtor 3200 will not respond when I try to open it.
The device manager shows a yellow icon at its location. I've used the Add Hardware Wizard.The Wizard told me:"This Device cannot start. (Code 10)." Is this the cause?
The Update Wizard tells me that my current software is the best available. Maxtor(Seagate) is no help.
I've tried unplugging and plugging the power and USB cables, but that doesn't work.
I have WinXP Home,SP3.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
